Now I've never seen one up close, but I think it is a ball check shut up in the trade component of the jobbers - the small steel ball, unless the seat perfectly into the hole at the end.
Check for rust and / or debris that may be required to be sealed. Maybe a good cleaning is all that is needed ....

It is designed to drip slowly. There is nothing you can do. Be sure to clean the hamster cage weekly. And there should be no problem

Very easy to get into a slug the size of the mouth of the bottle and insert a round aluminum tube and bend at an angle of 45 degrees.

Most of them will leak all the time. And you're right about the worms that appear when the water droplets in a meal of mosquitoes are tiny May.
One type of water bottles are not sealed. It's called "FLAT BAC fill. With water, upside down and slide the small metal ball that you gently press the air out of the bottle. Turn right and looked. The ball is in the bottle held by a spring, and thus has less tendency to flee. The only time the leak of me if I have dramatically increased the temperature.
Www.ferret.com search and enter "Flat Bac" instead of research. They have good prices, I have before me did.
The bottle is available in various sizes, 32 and 16 oz ferret.com door, if you think you are too big for your hamster, shops carry a pet, this is one of the smallest size, is an 8 oz bottle, you can also that We petsolutions.com.

I always replace things when I was a rabbit! Try to tighten the lid a little. Make sure the lid is put in contact with the bottle is clean and the joints properly. You can put in a rubber ring for help. Bottles with more modest dimensions, but does not leak as much as large.

Strangely enough, however. As I had one and not leaking, my holiday, pulled and dragged like crazy! He loved to drain some. Clean the basin of water per day.
